1. How much does it cost to have a vp.art made?

Prices depend on the size and style of the art piece you select, as well as the medium, framing, and any other options you choose. Check out the pricing options in our secure online store.

2. Can I choose the color and size of my art piece?

Yes. For those who would like to create their own, personal vp.art , we offer the possibility to choose among 8 preselected styles, 16 colors or color combinations, various medium, picture sizes and much more, to suit your personality or match your décor. If you would like a custom color which isn't offered on this site, we can match any pantone color for a small additional fee. If you don’t want to make the choice yourself or can't decide which is best, we are happy to advise you. Contact us for details at customer-service@thesmartart.net.

3. Is each piece truly unique?

vp.art is based on voice messages. Voices are almost as unique as DNA! No two pieces of vp.art can ever be the same. Your Personal vp.art will be delivered with a Certificat of Authenticity, which states that it is based on your voice message and will never be reprinted or reissued, neither signed or unsigned.

We also create art based on quotes, poems or publicly available voices, and issue them either as Original vp.art or as Limited Editions. While we produce only one single exemplary of any signed and certified Original vp.art , the Limited Editions are produced in small series of 10 to 30 copies, using high quality products. All of them are numbered and signed by us. Both types of vp.art are delivered with a Certificat of Authenticity, which includes our commitment, never to reprint or reissue further copies of this vp.art , and the electronic copies are destroyed after printing.

Recently we have been asked to issue vp.art Posters. These posters are printed in large series, using quality products, but none of them are neither numbered nor signed.

4. How do I know that my artwork was made from my voice message and nothing else?

As you might expect, we take great pride in ensuring the authenticity of every vp.art we create. We use secure methods to track the samples, and apply strict tracking procedures using a unique code for your artwork. At various stages in the process, we make sure your code matches your sample.

5. Are the art pieces signed?

All vp.art are signed by us, and every piece of art we produce comes with a Certificate of Authenticity signed by the founders. Given that Personal and Original vp.art are unique, they don't have serial numbers, while the Limited Edition prints are numbered and signed. To further authenticale real vp.art , we use our own "inshu" to stamp the art. The "inshu" is a Japanese hanko seal, and our's has been specially made for us.

We are the ones who invented vp.art – your art piece is a certified original from TSAN.

6. What materials do you use to create the art piece?

vp.art portraits are high quality giclee prints, produced with environment friendly pigments, guaranteed by the manufacturer to resist fading for more than 100 years. We use either cotton canvas, Museum Etching Fine Art paper, microceramic photopaper or translucent film. All prints are treated with a protective coating. On demand, we apply a non-yellowing protective varnish to enhance the colors or protect your vp.art from frequent touching.

7. Does my artwork come stretched?

There are various options you can choose from: you can order it mounted on hardwood, stretched canvas, or even in a glowframe (choosing back-lit translucent film). When framed, your vp.art will be shipped ready-to-hang on your wall. You may also choose to receive it rolled in a protective tube and subsequently frame it yourself. All these options are available when you place your order in our online store. To see all available options, visit our online store now.

If you choose to have your artwork rolled and shipped (rather than framed), we leave a 4 cm overprint border and a 3 cm blank border. That will give you and your framer plenty of room.

8. Can I order a digital file of my sound message?

You certainly can! At the end of the order procedure, you will find an option allowing you to purchase a digital file of your vp.art . You can thus use it as a screensaver, e-mail it to friends, or print it yourself at home. Please note that there is no discount for digital-only versions of your vp.art. However, you will save on all shipping and handling costs.

9. Can I combine more than one sound sample onto a single canvas?

Absolutely, this can even be an excellent idea! Our procedures allow us to combine the sound voices of two, three or even more people on a single canvas. A combined portrait makes a positive, affectionate statement of unity for couples, families, business partners and friends.

10. Can I make a vp.art of my favorite pet?

The answer is yes! In fact, we produce lots of pet portraits for our customers. A vp.art is a beautiful way to transcribe your companion's true character! The only difficulty is that you will have to record the sound of your animal and send it to us. However, if your pet is obedient, you might even manage to record the sound online using our recording applet.

11. Can you make a vp.art portrait of a deceased person?

Yes, provided you have a sound recording of the person. We know that many people take great comfort in having a vp.art of a departed friend or family member. Please contact us for more information at customer-service@thesmartart.net.

12. How long will it take to receive my artwork?

In Europe, the average delivery time is two weeks from the date we receive your sound message sample, and a few days more for orders outside Europe. The sooner we get the sound message sample, the sooner we can get started creating your vp.art.

13. Do you ship outside Europe?

Yes, we do. We sell vp.art around the world, throughout Europe, the Middle East, Asia, Australia, as well as North and South America. You can order a vp.art wherever you live provided a courier service is willing to deliver it. Shipping internationally is easy, safe and legal.

14. Do you offer any discount for the purchase of more than one piece?

We certainly do. We offer a discount on additional pieces ordered concurrently and of equivalent or lesser value. If all the vp.art pieces are being shipped to the same address, you will also benefit from reduced costs through combined shipping.

15. How do you ensure my security and privacy?

At TSAN, privacy and security are at the top of our priorities. Your details are stored on a secure server. Your samples are processed only within our in-house facility. In addition, we use a digital code – not names – to track the samples during the production process. If this explanation doesn’t reassure you, please contact us directly about any area of concern you may still have: customer-service@thesmartart.net.

16. What information can be obtained from my artwork?

None. There is no way for anyone to read your initial message from the final artwork. If someone would try to build a reversed filter set to process the art all the way back to the original sound, which would be an extremely time-consuming, tedious and costly operation, they would need to start from the final artwork.

While a raw graphic straight out of a spectrograph can be read by highly sophisticated sound programs, once we applied the filters, your initial message would simply produce a diffuse noise. And from that point onwards, your message will still undergo multiple changes, many of which depend on our artistic inspiration. To sum it up: reading your initial message by "decoding" your vp.art would me more difficult than finding the places shown in the paintings of Nicolas de Staël.

17. Do you keep my sound message?

No. As soon as we get confirmation of your delivery, your sound message will be deleted. The destruction of your sample is part of our privacy protection process. Unless you ask us to keep the vp.art for subsequent re-use, we also delete the electronic version of your vp.art after you received the print.

Your vp.art is stored for six months, and is then permanently deleted, unless you ask us to keep it for a longer period of time, for example to preserve the possibility to produce other copies or simply to download your image (this option is available in the configuration procedure). If you want us to delete it sooner, just get in touch with us and we'll be happy to comply.
